| waste management in india |
Waste management is one of the primary needs in all countries of the world. Waste becomes
wealth. Actually there is no
garbage in the world. The world's waste comes from human consumption.
But species are exterminated. Animals produce only organic waste. But human waste is not
only organic waste but
plastic, smoke, electrical waste, concrete waste and many more. Effective management of
waste can benefit a whole
landscape. Waste disposal in India is in its infancy. Waste Management Project India has a
lot but it is not being done
effectively. There are many big and small projects in India today.
Role of family in waste management
Waste management should start from the family. Family elders should teach children how to
dispose of
plastic and organic waste. In places like Kerala they will clean the house and surroundings
thoroughly but
deposit the waste on the road or public place. If individuals are good, society will be good.
Public toilets in India
Public toilets are one of the unsanitary places in India. Indians in general do not know how to use European
closets well. Closets are soiled by spitting etc. after use. At bus stations and railway stations, cigarettes,
cigarette covers, napkin pads and condoms are deposited in the closet, causing water blockage. Hospitals are
another place where public toilets are a big fail. Many government hospitals have very dirty toilets which are
made dirty by the people and the staff. So it can be overcome only through awareness and strong law.
Religion and caste
In countries like India, it is possible to create effective awareness among religious and caste communities.
Many caste and religious communities are conducting cleanliness classes in an efficient manner. Example:
Nambudiri and Christian community. In India, where caste and religion influence, such methods can be
used to create awareness among people about waste.
What is garbage?
Actually there is no garbage on earth. Garbage is the material that is not needed by man and which changes
from it when man uses it. There is nothing on earth that can be thrown away for nothing. Ruby can
also be obtained from the remains of consumption. Countries in Europe, America, Africa, Arabia and Asia
have good examples of waste management but India is a big failure in this field.
Will India become garbage free?
Yes, it is possible if there is a good project at the All India level. If more than one strong private company
competes in this field, a big change will be reflected in India. Apart from waste disposal, beautification is also
needed in India. The corporation and panchayat should decide what color and size the houses, walls and
other buildings in the town and village should be. If such a project is implemented, the face of India will
change. None of the existing projects in India can make a big difference.
